Menopause and weight gain

Why am I gaining weight?

Now that you know that you are going through menopause, you have taken notice to  gaining weight. Especially around the belly. Also your  thighs are a little thicker than what they use to be. The extra pounds you don’t need! But you have learned that the symptom of menopause weight gain will give you an overall change in  your shape. You will go from an pear shape to a apple shape. This is not something to be happy for however, it is normal and is to be expected.

When you are going through menopause most women will have a weight gain of about 10 to 15 pounds during their menopausal years. Depending on what stage of menopause you are in makes a difference as to how fast you will experience a fast weight gain. This would be early menopause. With perimenopause your weight gain will come gradually about a pound a year.

Where do you gain weight at first?

  • Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks
These areas are ones that you will be most concerned with because they are the ones that you take notice to first. Putting an exercise program in place will help you gain some control over the weight gain with menopause. There are many other reasons for having weight gain that can and cannot be connected to menopause.  Stress is a contributing factor in weight gain with menopause. Learning how to get your stress level down will help in gaining weight while you are in menopause.

You don’t have to think it is your fault.

Because menopause is a natural process that women go through in their mid age life. It is all part of the package. (if you will) Keep in mind that as you enter the early stages of menopause maintaining weight becomes more and more difficult, and losing weight becomes almost impossible.
